Birth Certificate (or other government
document that includes the birth date) is required for new players.
AYSO is an all volunteer organization. Our fees are low ONLY because of our
volunteers and the work they do.
One person from each family should be prepared to volunteer for one of
our many jobs in order for AYSO to continue to provide an outstanding
program. Forms will be available at
registration listing volunteer opportunities, many of which only take two hours
a season. Get an early start on
volunteering (and get your volunteer hours out of the way) and help with

Evaluation
Practices
In the past,
we have introduced the concept of Evaluation Practices at the beginning of the
fall season. This has proven to be helpful to coaches and players. The
evaluation practices give the coaches a chance to see all the players and rate
them so that the Division Coordinators can form balanced teams. Players should attend at least 2
practices during these days (30, 31 July, and 4, 5 August), but are welcome to
come every day. This is a good way to get in condition for soccer. All coaches and assistant coaches should
participate in the evaluations if possible. Team managers are also needed to
help that week. We will have soccer equipment and merchandise for sale and
maybe another soccer uniform garage sale.
The team rosters will be ready for the Coach, Referee, and Team Manager
meeting which will be on 9 August. Coaches will then call their team players
and start practice the week of 11 August.
Coach, Referee,
and Team Manager Meeting – 9 August
This meeting
is the most important meeting of the year and will determine how successful the
year is. We ask that team managers attend this meeting so that they will also
be informed regarding what needs to be done in preparation for a successful
season. Uniforms and team equipment will also be identified at that time. Mark your calendars so that you do not
miss this meeting.
Coach training is an essential part of the AYSO philosophy.
It is more than “X’s and O’s”, because it not only
deals with the practices and strategies of soccer on and off the field, but it
also deals with the “age specific” issues that coaches will
encounter as they work with their teams.
Kids learn, respond, and react differently at different
ages. Drills that are “boring” for U12 kids are the “most fun
in the world” for U8 kids. U12 kids can dribble through a cone relay with
ease, while most U6 kids can barely dribble at all. Age specific coach training
gives each coach insight, tools, and the perspective to effectively coach at
their age group.
Coaches will learn the basics of soccer fundamentals, rules,
and age specific exceptions to those rules. They will learn about strategies,
principles of play, and how to “set” their team(s). They will learn
about AYSO philosophies and how those philosophies impact their team(s). But
most important of all, they will learn how to create a challenging,
progressive, and positive environment that will engage ALL the kids on their
team, keeping them wanting to learn more, and having more fun than they should
be allowed to while learning.
Coaches will learn all this and more in as little as 2, and
no more than 5 hours of instruction, depending on the age group. Training is
usually held on a Saturday close to the beginning of the fall and spring
season. Each age specific session requires a minimum of three coach
participants AND their age specific player to attend. Three is the minimum
number needed to adequately demonstrate the coaching principles in each course.
The “age specific” player is utilized to demonstrate specific coaching
principles in action and in “real time”. Contact the regional Coach
Trainer for specifics and scheduling of sessions at:
Remember, post season participation by any team requires at
least one coach on the team to be trained in the “age specific”
team division. And there are now “GRADUATION PRESENTS” for
completion of coach training (shirts, jackets, bags, and other gear).
