Coach Training and Certification is free to all Region 160 Volunteers.

Coach Training and Certification

Want to get your team off to a great start next fall ? Start with yourself and your assistant coach… take some of the free coach training we will be offering. Make sure that you are trained at the level you are coaching--the kids deserve it!

All Coaches must take Coach Safe Haven(1 time only) and should also take age group specific training.

Come prepared to practice some soccer, and bring water. Location: Holy Spirit Catholic School at 619 Airport Rd.

All Training is Free. All coaches taking teams to post season tournaments must have taken Coach Safe Haven.

Course Details:

The Safe Haven class is a certification class and is required for coaches and assistant coaches to be covered by AYSO liability insurance and to be trained concerning what you need to know when working with children. This class is taken only once. An on-line version of it is available, but we prefer that you attend a local course in order to be informed on matters relating to the operation of our region - Region 160. Coaches taking teams to AYSO tournaments must have taken this course.

AYSO also provides training courses for each level of coaching. The U6, U8, and U10 coach classes do not assume any prior soccer knowledge, and are designed so that you will be prepared to coach these age groups.
Class durations are approximately
Coach Safe Haven - 2.5 hours
U6 Coach Class - 2.25 hours
U8 Coach Class - 2.75 hours
U10 Coach Class - 3.25 hours

A U12 Coach Course is also available, but is generally offered by Region 160 only in the Fall. If enough volunteers ask for this course, we will schedule it for the spring. AYSO also provides the Intermediate Coach course (for U14 divisions) and the Advanced Coach Course (for the U16-U19 divisions). The U12 Coach Course is a pre-requisite for the Intermediate course and the Intermediate Course is the pre-requisite for the Advance Coach Course.
