AYSO - Region 160 Coach and Ref Information

Training for Referees

Training is free to all Region 160 Volunteers. Referee Uniforms and Equipment are provided to those that complete courses and referee games for the region.

AYSO Region 160 offers the U6-U8 Referee, U10 Upgrade, and Basic/Regional Referee Courses each Fall and each spring. Descriptions of these courses appear at the bottom of this page.

The next scheduled classes, Spring 2008, are listed below. Come and join us and help make our spring games Fun, Fair, and Safe. Officiating is lots of fun and you feel more like a part of the game. It is also a very good way to learn about the game and will make you a better player. Referee training is open to adults and youth aged 12 and older. The spring is an excellent time to start as a new referee and earn Setting the Pace points for your player’s team – both for taking the training and for the officiating that you do during the spring. It is great exercise and also qualifies as volunteer credit hours for students.

U6-U8 Referee:
Friday Evening, 22 Feb , 6:00-10:00 PM

Saturday Morning , 23 Feb, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

U10 Referee Upgrade:
Friday Evening, 22 Feb , 6:00-10:00 PM
or
Saturday Morning , 23 Feb, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Basic/Regional Referee
Take both the U6/U8 and U10 Upgrades classes during any of the above class sessions.

Location of training will be at 407 Clinton Ave, Central Church of Christ

U6-U8 Referee: This course is for the beginning referee who will be officiating U6 or U8 games. There are no pre-requisites. In our region, we ask the parents to referee the U6 and U8 games. If we do not have parents to step up to this, coaches will have to officiate the games. This puts an added burden on the coach and he will not be able to work with the players during the game. Refereeing at this age is easy and lots of fun. Please join us, even if all you would like to do is learn about the game.

U10 Upgrade: This course is for those who are already a U6-U8 referee and are ready to learn to officiate the real soccer game that we play in the U10 level. Once you complete this course, you will be a certified basic referee and can, with experience, advance to older and older age groups. We focus on the U10 game, so that you can start out there and work your way up.

If you are not already a referee and would like to certify all the way Basic/Regional Referee, take both the U6-U8 course and the U10 Upgrade.

The U6-U8 Referee includes the Safe Haven for Referees which is required for every referee volunteer, and is also available online. If you have had Coach Safe Have, you do not need to take the Referee Safe Haven.
