Once again, Region 160 will sponsor teams for an extended play program. This program, called the AYSO Region 160 Select Program is a year round youth soccer talent development program and is offered in addition to the Fall and Spring seasons of our normal Primary Program. Participation in the
Select Program will require current participation in our Primary program along with selection
by one of our Select Program Coaches. This Select Program will replace, and
is seen as the natural successor to, our previous Summer Program. Select Program Players must be registered for the Primary Program and must have played in half of the Primary Program Games for their team in the just completed season or must play in half of their team’s games during the current season. Players are invited to participate in the Program by a Select Program Team’s Coaches based on the following criteria in this order of importance: 1. Interest; 2. Love for the Game; 3. Maturity; 4. Ability; 5. Teammate Skills and Sportsmanship. There will be NO Tryouts (No Cuts). Players are invited to participate by Select Program Coaches. The Select
Program Can Include: ·
AYSO Section 5 Games : · A Team Player Camp run by AYSO Soccer Camps ·
AYSO
National Games : ·
Alabama Sports Festival : · Games and Friendlies with area club teams and other Regions’ AYSO Select Teams · Other tournaments if available and agreed to by team members. We hope to have teams in each division – both girls and coed – from U10 to U19. We already have some coaches who have committed to having a team, but we are looking for more. If we have enough coaches and players, we may have more than one team in a division. Note below the committed teams, where we have open coach positions.
The fees listed above will cover the cost of uniforms (2 complete uniforms) and one tournament entry fee. Players who played in previous years and have complete uniform kits may be eligible for uniform credits which will significantly reduce these fees. If the team (the players, parents and coaches) decide to enter more tournaments beyond the AYSO Section 5 Games, then the players who choose to participate will be assessed additional fees to cover the entry fees. Costs for travel for the tournaments will be the responsibility of the players/parents. Players must register before 1 May. Click here to download a
registration form (MS
Word, Adobe
PDF). The forms and registration fee (checks payable to
AYSO) should be turned into the coach once you are added to a team. We need more coaches! If you are interested in coaching a team, assisting with a team as team manager or assistant coach, or have players that would like to participate, or have other questions, please email us at Select Program Support. The teams are forming now and can begin practice as soon as formed. We may form more than one team in each age group. Where we have more interested than we have openings on the current teams, we are willing to form another team, given we can find a coach to commit to taking a team. The AYSO Section 5
Games will be held in June in The AYSO National
Games only take place in even numbered years and are in
different locations around the country each time. The 2008 National Games
will be in AYSO tournaments are played by AYSO rules requiring each player on the team to play at least ½ the game, adhere to all AYSO rules and regulations and policies, and all the teams included are AYSO teams. The Alabama Sports Festival events are open to U12 to U19 teams and adult teams. These events do not have any playing time rules and many of the teams in the competition are school or club teams. However, AYSO teams that choose to play in these and other non-AYSO tournaments will always insure that each player on the team will play at least ½ of each game, and will adhere to all AYSO rules, regulations and policies. The AYSO Team Camp
is conducted by AYSO Soccer Camps, UK
